For the EKL Title

Game 14: 2 May at BV West on Spectrum Sports (0-1 Overtime)

What a cool event Spectrum Sports (and past teams and this year's team and BV West and its #8 team in the country) gave us the opportunity to be part of. I can't wait to view the broadcast today at 7:00 or Friday at noon or 7:30. Both teams played some great high school soccer.

Statistically, the match was pretty even, although I would say our shot attempts were far more dangerous than theirs as Hallie was in breakaway mode 4 times with Bella also putting Janky right in front of the goal from the top of the 6 as well.  Even the game winner was really a great cross, I assume, that tailed back to catch most of the upper part of the back post.

That being said I thought they controlled the middle of the field for the first half, but that Moira Kelley just had a great second half, allowing us a lot better midfield presence in that second half.

Our back line played well all night; obviously, we were late on the ball that beat us, not getting there in time to deny that long, beautiful cross. We had been given a little preview of the cross as regulation ended on a similar cross to the back post that was headed in a second after the horn sounded; the offsides flag was up as well, but still, it did serve as a warning we did not heed 3 minutes later.

BWhite Players of the Match were Hania Crow and Caroline Romme—those girls played all 84 minutes and denied, denied and denied.

BV West was one of the most impressive teams we have played this year—they are up there with a Sion, a Collinsville, a St. Charles North.  I can't see how any other 6A team in Kansas should be able to play with them. They should get challenged by Teresa's Saturday as West sends so many forward constantly, I would think that Teresa would score a couple of goals.  West, however, will score a few themselves against Teresa.

Brooke Thomas looked great in goal—composed, athletic, smart with the ball. I would have liked to see some of our shots on a quicker surface, but that might not have made any difference at all.

As I said: great high school soccer match. Thanks to all who helped make it happen and to both sides who played some very, very good soccer.
